Our Terminal

Cai Mep International Terminal (CMIT) is strategically located 50 kilometers southeast of Vietnam’s commercial hub, Ho Chi Minh City. It offers direct access to and from Asia, Europe and the Americas. CMIT is the only terminal in Vietnam and one of the only terminals in South East Asia capable of accommodating vessels up to 214,121 DWT (~ 20,000 TEU)

Situated 15 nautical miles from main sailing routes, Cai Mep is safe and convenient for the biggest vessels to call, with an optimal navigational flexibility. It can help avoid congestion at the trans shipment hub for indirect services from Vietnam, Cai Mep offers alternative solutions via direct routings to US and Europe. It offers:

CMIT has the facilities, equipment and expertise to offer Maintenance & Repair services for all kinds of empty containers - including comprehensive inspection, grading, cleaning and repair. On request, laden containers (dry/reefer) can also be inspected and repairs carried out.

Intermodal connections

Via an extensive barge network, CMIT offers journey times of 6-8 hours to ICD’s in the country’s capital, Ho Chi Minh city (Transimex ICD; Tanamexco ICD; So Trans ICD; Phuc Long ICD; Phuoc Long ICD), Dong Nai Port, and Binh Duong Port – Souther Vietnam’s main production areas.  Transit between Pnhom Penh in Cambodia takes around 48 hours. This provides a cost effective solution for large numbers of containers.

The modern Long Thanh Dau Giay express way and highway 51 offer excellent road connections between CMIT and key industrial zones. Improvements to local transportation infrastructure, has reduced trucking times to Ho Chi Minh City to approximately 90 minutes. CMIT uses experienced local trucking partners, that are competitive, punctual and safe.

E-services

CMIT’s terminal operating system is directly connected with the e-customs system to manage and supervise export, import, transit and transshipment cargo in and out of the terminal. This electronic system saves time and improves accuracy, making CMIT a competitive international transshipment hub. CMIT also offers online payments and electronic billing, as well as access to up-to-the minute container and vessel tracking.

Fumigation, veterinary and phytosanitary

CMIT has a dedicated area for customs, fumigation, veterinary and phytosanitary inspection. To ensure maximum efficiency and rapid turnaround times an appointment system is in operation.

Inter-terminals transfers

For added convenience, CMIT provides trucking services, customs administration and lift on/off for laden and empty containers between terminals. This is a fast and efficient option for short distance transport, especially when cargo needs to be loaded onto the earliest vessel at another port.

Ownership

Cai Mep International Terminal Co., Ltd. (CMIT) was established on January 26, 2007 as a joint venture between Saigon Port (15%), Vietnam National Shipping Lines (36%) and APM Terminals (49%).
