Technical Competence Framework

APM Terminals is calling on Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to support us in developing a competence development framework that will set the benchmark for professional development in the port industry.

Joint skill development enhances our internal expertise, reducing risks in equipment handling and ensures a safer workplace for our employees, customers and partners. “Precise fault diagnosis and effective repairs can also help reduce carbon footprints, ensures safe maintenance practices, and foster a more sustainable business approach. 

With a looming skills shortage, this approach will ensure a supply of employees trained to the highest standard for both APM Terminals and the OEMs we partner with. OEMs will benefit from near real-time product feedback loops, insights to drive innovation and reduced warranty costs.

Pilot Locations

Initially we’ll be piloting out Technical Competence Framework at six carefully selected terminals and later extend its implementation to all terminals worldwide. The focus will be on Mechanics; Electricity; Oleo Hydraulics; and Networks, Computer and Reporting systems. If you’re located close to one of these locations, get in touch!

Career paths that span Terminals and OEMs

Our Technical Competence Framework will develop maintenance employees into repairers who address equipment failures and ultimately equip them with the skills to identifies and resolves faults in port equipment.

We then see a natural progression into specialists in manufacturing for OEMs, who can enhance comprehension of particular equipment while operating within the manufacturing company, fostering a deeper understanding of the product. Ultimately becoming advanced expert in manufacturing and product masters, who lead advancements in port equipment design while concurrently developing innovative solutions and enhancing product features.
