Record TEUs lift on Luna Maersk at APM Terminals Algeciras

The Luna Maersk container ship departed APM Terminals Algeciras on 11 April with the largest cargo ever recorded in a call on the 84W service, which links the Mediterranean with the USA, Central America and the Pacific coast. The vessel, which is 265 metres long and 37 metres wide, departed from the Juan Carlos I Quay bound for New York with 3,917 TEUs loaded at APM Terminals Algeciras.

Maersk highlighted the coordination work carried out prior to the call, and the communication between the planning teams of the shipping company, the terminal and the vessel's crew, to reach this milestone during the Luna Maersk's operations in Algeciras. The previous cargo record was 3,825 TEUs.

This is the second record registered by the terminal in recent months. On 22 February, the facility concluded operations on the Mayview Maersk with 201.63 PMPH (movements per hour), surpassing the symbolic figure of 200 PMPH and establishing a new milestone for the terminal.

APM Terminals Algeciras, 100% owned by APM Terminals, is one of the largest terminals in the Western Mediterranean and a natural transhipment hub for cargoes to and from Africa, Europe and the Far East. Operations at the terminal commenced on February 28, 1986.
