We approach sustainability from three angles – economic, environmental and social – striving to create value on all three fronts. We are committed to the UN Global Compact’s Principles, and to mitigate our most material environmental and social risks in our businesses and in the communities that surround our businesses globally. 

Sustainable port development 
We design sustainability and optimized safety performance into our terminals and other operations from initial concept to operational implementation. Striving for the best possible outcome for our business and society means taking into account our interaction with communities and the natural environment . We aim to avoid, reduce or mitigate potential negative impacts and we manage this through a process called Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA). 


Operational effectiveness 
Operational effectiveness initiatives deliver a social or environmental benefit; through reducing our resource use, waste and emissions, or by improving employee working conditions, health care and education. Such initiatives help us to become more efficient and effective in our operations.

Investment in society 
We invest in society through financial donations, staff time, equipment and free container-handling services in case of emergencies. These initiatives are long-term, mutually beneficial investments that help us engage our local communities, helping them become more resilient, and fostering socio-economic development.

We are part of the Logistics Emergency Team

The Logistic Emergency Teams (LET) is  a partnership between the UN World Food Programme, Maersk Group, UPS and Agility, facilitated by the World Economic Forum.

In the event of a large scale natural disaster, LET provides emergency support in the form of logistics.
