Testing of automated straddle carrier enters next phase

As previously communicated, APM Terminals Aarhus is chosen to test ZPMC´s state of the art and highly efficient automated straddle carrier. BlueBot, as the machine is called, will now be given a larger test area at the terminal to test more capabilities.

In the beginning of 2022, APM Terminals was chosen as the first terminal in the world to test ZPMC’s groundbreaking automated straddle carrier in a real terminal environment. It is now time to take the next step of the testing and extend the enclosed test area. New capabilities, such as navigation in the reefer area and picking and placing containers to and from a test quay crane lane will now be observed.

“The testing of BlueBot is going very well and we are excited to enter the next phase. The machine does not interfere with our daily operations, and we comply extremely strict safety regulations, which is crucial. There is no doubt automation will play an important role in the future of container terminal operation”, says Per Bøch, Interim Chief Operating Officer at APM Terminals Aarhus.
