Progress of the stabilization phase at the Port of Balboa

APM Terminals Panamá reports that the stabilization process of operations at the Port of Balboa (Pacific) is progressing positively.

Several reception, handling, and testing activities are being carried out in parallel to ensure the operational continuity of the terminal and port activities with the least possible impact on users and the logistics chain..

Key progress to date:

  • Personnel training:
    100% of staff have completed training on the terminal’s new operating system, ensuring a smooth and efficient transition in data and cargo management.
  • Labor substitution:
    By the end of today, the employer substitution process was completed for 82% of employees.
  • General cargo:
    This service remains active. Today, the first dry bulk vessel was handled, bringing in imported rice. Vehicle delivery to the owners of that cargo also remains active.
  • Import cargo:
    Gate tests were conducted with import cargo destined for the local market.
  • Containerized cargo:
    Tomorrow, the first container vessel will be handled at the port, following today’s tests on a second vessel and the 500 successful moves completed on Wednesday.
  • Rail connection:
    Three additional trains were dispatched today.
  • Container reception:
    Reception of export and empty containers through the gate continues during normal hours.
  • Protection of perishable goods:
    Monitoring of refrigerated containers carrying perishable cargo continues.
  • Inventory:
    Under the supervision of the Panama Maritime Authority, the inventory of all terminal assets was completed. Following the evaluation, the design and implementation phase of the maintenance plan for equipment and infrastructure will proceed.
