APM Terminals expands rail shuttle service between Helsingborg and Gothenburg
In March 2026, APM Terminals launched its own rail shuttle service between Helsingborg and Gothenburg. The initiative has had a strong start and has already expanded to two departures per week, with growing market interest. The development is driven by close collaboration with customers and partners who have gradually shifted cargo flows to the new solution.
“We have a strong collaboration with several of our largest customers, who have redirected their flows to APM Terminals Gothenburg. Major shipping lines, as well as freight forwarders and rail customers, have shown significant interest in the solution. If the demand continues, we expect to increase to three trains per week shortly,” says Emil Seferaj, Rail Solutions Sales Representative at APM Terminals.
One of the key success factors is that the shuttle service has quickly proven to be both stable and efficient in daily operations.
“Customers who have booked the service have found it to work very smoothly. A clear sign of that is that bookings continue to come in week after week,” says Emil Seferaj.
APM Terminals Gothenburg begins in Helsingborg
APM Terminals also operates a dedicated area at the Helsingborg intermodal terminal, managed by our partner Dania Connect. This enables flexible and efficient cargo handling already at an early stage of the transport chain.
“This means we can receive cargo at the Helsingborg intermodal terminal well in advance, without warehousing costs. It also allows us to tailor depot solutions for our customers, for both empty and loaded units,” says Emil Seferaj.
Seamless flow between rail and sea
On Tuesdays, the train arrives from Helsingborg to Gothenburg to collect import cargo from Monday’s Asia services. On Thursdays, the train returns to Gothenburg loaded with export cargo from the Helsingborg region, ready for Thursday’s direct vessel calls.
“When the third train is introduced and starts arriving in Gothenburg on Sundays, it will create an even more integrated logistics chain. The rail shuttle will then connect seamlessly with our vessel network, creating an efficient weekly flow for both imports and exports.”
