APM Terminals Quetzal completes investment in local school

Committed to the welfare of the community, APM Terminals Quetzal (APMTQ) inaugurated the reconstruction of the Official Urban Mixed School of Miramar, which can serve 700 nursery and elementary students. The restoration was done under the agreement of Corporate Social Responsibility (RSE) established with the Municipality of San José, Escuintla.

“At APM Terminals, we seek to promote and support projects that transcend and focus on the needs of the communities where we are present. We are very pleased to make an official delivery of the remodeling of the Miramar neighborhood school. This way, students can start the next school year in a new space,” said Gabriel Corrales, director of APM Terminals Quetzal.

The school´s 1,500 m2 renovation was focused on the computer lab, administrative area, 16 classrooms, and three sanitary modules. APMTQ invested US$ 376,025.48 to improve the conditions for the education of students with quality infrastructure.

Carmen Figueroa, director of the establishment, added, “Today is an exceptional day for us. We thank the company, APM Terminals, and the Municipality of San José for their commitment to our school campus, which this year celebrates 50 years of history. Now, we start a new path with modern facilities to continue providing education with dedication to the children of our community.”

CSR programs execution in 2019

APMTQ is committed to social and community development in San José, Escuintla by generating projects with criteria of sustainability and shared value for Guatemalans. The plans have four fundamental axes: infrastructure, education, health, and productivity.

Consequently, in April 2019, two main streets (7th and 4th street) were delivered and rebuilt in the Puerto San José Urban Area to guarantee road safety and foot traffic.
