Cross-docking requests more than double at APM Terminals Moín

The climate-controlled area of the Moín Container Terminal (TCM) reached a new milestone in the first month of this year, with over a 250% increase in cross-docking requests, compared to the same period last year.

A total of 806 cross docking requests - transfers from one container to another - were handled, compared to 320 in 2022. This is also 34% higher than the previous record in July 2022. This increase is largely due to TCM's strong business relationships with large multinational fruit exporting companies.

Value Added Services Supervisor Irina Méndez Sterling spearheaded this achievement for TCM. Irina is noted for being one of the first four women to operate an RTG at TCM.

As a supervisor, Irina carries out the inspection of refrigerated and dry goods, including the transfer of pallets of bananas and pineapples to containers assigned to different customers within the climate-controlled environment. In addition, she ensures that the operation runs efficiently and safely as planned, and supports the creation, implementation and monitoring of procedures for safe and efficient operations in this area.

"This achievement would not have been possible without the dedication, effort and commitment of the team. I am very proud to have been able to lead and provide the necessary support and resources to the team, to now see these magnificent results. The most important thing I look for in my work is to always recognise the efforts of the staff and reward them so that they continue to work with a positive outlook," Irina explained.

Méndez also highlights the great work done by the Commercial Department, with the onboarding of two key new clients that have contributed to the achievement of this record. She also recognises the additional services they offer such as: cargo inspection, quality inspection, visual inspection, safety inspection, different types of sample extraction inspections.

The climate-controlled area was inaugurated in 2021 at TCM to support continuous improvement within the terminal, projected growth, the acquisition of new customers, and new business opportunities. TCM’s cold network will continue its process of continuous improvement to expand its service and offer its customers even better quality.
